Priscilla Shirer God's Voice Reveals His Character
I am so excited about this Bible Study, Discerning the Voice of God. It is just another addition to the amazing journey that has been this last year. I feel like all God has been doing in my life has been taking me closer and closer to Him and further and further away from the person I used to be. I have this image in my head of a sail boat clipping along with the wind in the sail's at full mass or however that sailing terminology has it. Well, here is the great insight that spoke to me today via Priscilla Shirer. This is the outline with all my side notes. I pray it can be as much of an encouragement to you as it has been to me. I thank God for you all as we mutually encourage each other towards the Heavenly finish line.
"With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments. Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law." Psalm 119: 10, 18
I see that scripture with a Dear Lord in front of it and an Amen at the end. We get to know God through His written word to us. The better you know God, the more clearly you can hear God. God desires for us to seek Him out to know Him not just to receive from Him.
1) Get your priorities right! Focus on God, not merely on hearing God. Learn His attributes, His character. Learn His voice because Satan disguises himself as an angel of light but God is THE Angel of Light. You can distinguish God’s voice by pressing into Him.
2 Chronicles 16:9 – For the eyes of the LORD range though the earth to show Himself strong for those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.
“But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things, I consider them rubbish that I may gain Christ…” Philippians 3:7-8
Don’t go voice hunting instead of God hunting. God desires for us to desire Him not just what we can get from Him. Ask yourself, “When things don’t go well, do I press closer to God or do I walk away from Him?”
2) Relinquish Control! Correct communion with God in our ears can only emanate from intimate communion with Him in our hearts. A mother knows the cries of her baby. I am God’s and He knows my cries. Likewise we need to intimately know God to know His voice. Search the Scripture to get to know God. Pray Psalm 119:10, 18. Rest in the peace of the knowledge that it is God’s responsibility to cause you to hear and to recognize His voice.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on YOUR own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and HE will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make it clear to you.”
Philippians 3:14-15
“…for it is God who works in you to will to act according to His good purpose.” Philippians 2:13
“Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4 When the desire of our heart is to delight in the LORD, then God will always deliver!
Follow God! He leads perfectly because He IS love and He IS good. These are not personality traits, these are who He IS!
How awesome is it that we can study God's word like this? I am so excited for your desire to know God more. I pray that you always have a hungry spirit that is only quenchable with a direct communion with God.
“Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
John 15:13-15
2 1/2 more weeks and I will have my husband back. Please pray for his safe return. I want to welcome you to post prayer requests that you have. The most important thing that God has taught me this year is how important it is that we be praying for each other without ceasing. It is a great desire of mine to lift you all up in prayer because I know what a blessing it has been for me to live with the results of so many prayers for me. Thank you all for them by the way.

Pray that I make it through the end of the year with my sanity in tact. I have a few hairy meeting left, and a lot of work to do.
