Important: New Flying Restriction Lithium batteries

New U.S. DOT Hazmat Safety Rule Regarding Lithium Batteries

Effective Date: Immediately

Policy: Per the new U.S. DOT Hazmat Safety rule, customers are no longer permitted to transport loose lithium batteries in checked baggage. Lithium batteries are allowed in checked baggage only if installed in electronic devices. The new rule also limits customers to only two extended-life spare rechargeable lithium batteries in carry-on baggage. The spare carry-on lithium batteries must be stored in original packaging or in its own protective covering or plastic bag. Each battery must be in a separate container or plastic bag. This new regulation is designed to reduce the risk of lithium battery fires.

Reminders: Common consumer electronics such as cameras, cell phones, and most laptop computers contain lithium batteries that contain less than 8 grams of equivalent lithium content. Customers traveling with Personal Oxygen Concentrator (POC) or media equipment may have excessive lithium batteries that may require further review.
