a bit of re-order in my day goes a long day, that and a good book
I think lately I have gotten to some point where I have been focusing to much on the negative and at the end of the day I have been expecting Dan to come home and help me de-stress. This has in turn been stressing Dan out the last few weeks because he gets up at 4:30 or 5am and drives about 1.5 hours to work and back not making it home until after Sarah is already in bed. I realized I need to make some changes when I started expecting him to do certain things and then get more stressed when he just didn't do it. I was taking care of him, getting stuff done at home, running errands and such but then I was struck by something I read recently in the book For Women Only by Shaunti Feldhahm. I realized that I was doing things for Dan to help him, but I wasn't doing the things he wanted done to help him de-stress. He was doing what he could to help me de-stress but my requests of him were really starting to bring him down.
So this week I made some changes. My to do list was starting to overwhelm me to the point of inaction. I am working on doing things on my own that help me relax. One of these things is reading. I have some books that I have read many many times. Reading these books are great because I'm not compelled to stay reading them when I need to do something else. I've started doing a Bible study with the ladies at my church. That has been great because I'm just a social person and the opportunity to dive into God's word with other women is like food to my spirit. I am also able to work with the high school girls and pour into them which is a great outside of the house outlet. The women's study is Beth Moore's study of Esther. The girl's study is another Esther study done by LifeWay. This way I can share with the girls some things I have learned in the other Esther study. So, I am working on taking measures to get myself in a better place. I have been working on focusing more on the good things, having a prayer time during the day and a shower helps.
Dan and I had a budget meeting to beat all meetings last night. We ordered pizza, sat on the floor in the office and ate it while we went over all the different aspects of the budget. I bet if these banks and car companies got together in sweats, order some pizza and kicked back, they would be doing a lot better. That was just much more fun and relaxing.
Tonight Dan will be home early but he is getting together with the guys. That will be good for him and the guys. Tomorrow we are going to go out and find a nice park to explore. That and we need to go pick up a children's desk we bought a month ago but don't have our own way to go get it. We really need a truck I think. That should be our next vehicle.
How are some ways that you are able to keep you and your schedule balanced? How valuable are your girl friends to your over all well being?
