Its all you Monday!

First things first, don't forget there is free shipping today at my etsy shop. Go browse the handmade one of a kind pieces of jewelry that are quite beautiful if I might say so myself. :)

I went over to Suite 101 to find some could questions to ask today.

Serious question: Is it ethical for the affluent people to indulge in luxuries while other people starve?

So not serious question: Who is your favorite Muppet?

I googled ethical and found that ethical is the standard of what is socially or professionally acceptable. That makes this question less about what I think and more about evaluating what the societal norm is for that particular action. I don't really do because proportionatly we all indulge in something someone else cannot. Merely drinking a bottle of water while most of India drinks the water they bathe in would be unethical let alone eating a fifty dollar burger while all another person gets is ketchup soap. The question also goes back to how much do I give, when is what I give enough, how much do I keep for myself? God answers that, give 10% of all your profit. The rest is yours to decide what to do with, keep, giveaway, store what ever.

My favorite muppet is Kermit. I'm secretly in love with him. I hate Miss Piggy.

Serious question: I think it is ok for us to enjoy our blessings, but it is a sign of true spirituality to share what we have with those less fortunate. But I don't need to judge those who are affluent compared to me; the average middle class American is affluent compared to 75% of the world's population. Good question!

Not so serious question: I don't know a single muppet character. Sorry!

About the ethical question: the internet source you found may define ethics in social or professional terms, but books like Proverbs definitely define it in terms of God's character. Prov. 1:2 says we are to be righteous, just and fair (NIV. That Fair can also be translated as virtuous or ethical).

About 10% - that is what the OT requires, but that certainly doesn't mean that is the cap. Remember the widow who gave all.

Good discussion.

Good answer Warren! Thank you for your response. You know, it kind of seems like God gave us the out line in the OT but then the New Testament is a whole new ball game. I am going to meditate more on this and do some reading. I liked that serious question because honestly, I didn't have the "right" answer to it. God's standards are so different than the worlds. I'm gonna chew on this one for a while.
