A prayer for Fort Hood

My heart stopped yesterday as I learned about the shooting at Fort Hood in Texas. As my own husband moves about a military base, I am in deep prayer for the road these fellow people are now forced to walk, the mourning, the questions, the anger, the grief.

Father God,

I come to you right now on behalf of my fellow people who are suffering. The people of Fort Hood and their families have been thrust into walking a path they didn't see coming, one that isn't easy, is scary and full of pain. Father, make it known to them they are not alone. Rain down your peace on them. Let them know amongst their tears, Yours flow as well at their pain. I recall when you wept right along with those mourning Lazurus even though you knew they would have him back. It feels like such a very long time before we will see those we love again in Heaven so I pray you give them your comfort as they mourn and try to make sense of this terrible time. I pray that for now they rest in you but someday soon can find the beauty from the ashes left behind.

Amen

That was very sad to hear. It's so easy not to pray or think about it. However, I can't imagine what it would be like to be one of the victim's family members. The most important thing we can do now is to pray for those wounded, and the family members of those involved, and our nation as a whole.
