Pheobe

Christmas is upon us and I am quite excited about that. Presents are under the tree, snow is on the ground, I'm off to get some last minute goodies for my in-laws and friends, and Skype is succesfully downloaded on my lap top that I will still be able to see my family for Christmas. I love Skype. I should shill for them. I haven't been able to talk to one of my nieces very often because she isn't a phone person but with Skype, we recently had a good conversation that lasted more than thirty seconds. Skype is big because my family is hugely important to me. People come and go, but my family, I hold on to them pretty tightly.

This may seem crazy, before we move in a couple of weeks, I am working on getting some of the feral cats in my neighborhood fixed and vaccinated. It is free at the SPCA here, so all I have to do is get the cats to them. I will get them tested for Feline Leukemia and HIV. Unfortunately I am almost certain that all the cats have Feline Leukemia. The SPCA said it was up to me whether they would put them down or not. One of the cats here is in the last stages of the disease. It hurts my heart to see what he is going through. He was once a beautiful healthy orange tabby but now he looks and smells like something from a zombie movie. Why he is even still alive, I don't know. I don't want any of the other cats to go through what he has gone through. About three cats over the last couple years have met this fate. We already got a kitten fixed and vaccinated but not tested for the two diseases. I'm pretty sure she has it. I'm really sad about that. I am working on getting her tested. It isn't contagious to people and Leo has already been vaccinated. Pheobe is her name. When ever I am outside, she walks between my feet. She is the most friendly cat I've known.

Anyway, hopefully I can do a little good for these little guys before I leave. Hopefully they aren't all sick and can get the vaccination and be ok. Dan thinks I'm to much of a softy and he is probably right.
