Our new home!
Yesterday we recieved the keys to our home in our new city. I'm super excited about this and overwhelmed by all the work to be done. Even though it is only a rental, we still wanted to paint it. We should be living in it for about three to five years and I don't want to live only half settled for that long. Paint has that kind of influence on me. I am not a fan of white walls. While yes there are blogs out there that boast about white as a key decorating color, I am with McKMamma on the whole color thing. I am going with a neutral colors on the walls but plan to add the turquoise colored door turned dinner table, super colorful rugs, pillows, throws, wall hangings and what ever else I can come across. I like the turqoise, wine red, chocolate and burnt orange color palet. We will see. Maybe I'll throw a yellow in there. Fortunately, I have everything I need accept the rugs. I am super excited to use Dan's old Air Force Academy trunk as our TV stand. How cool is that! Totally unique. We are going to turn our living room into the library and the family room will be the play room. The dining room will be dining and craft room. The kitchen, well, a kitchen.
We all stayed the night there last night, but Miss Wiggles and I had to come home today. Unfortunately since the electricity and water have been off since October and the area experienced one of its worst rainy autumns, mold grew in the bathrooms, kitchen and on the fireplace mantel. Miss Wiggles room was far enough away from all that so we stayed the night. We have scheduled a time for professionals to come out and clean it all up. Seriously put a damper on the first night. I didn't take a shower there and poor hubby had to go to the base gym to shower. I bought an good sized bottle of bleach because even when the professionals are done I won't be satisfied until I give it a once over. My greater than great hubby will then purchase wood and reline the kitchen and bathroom cabinets under the sinks. I also bought a bottle of pinesol. Anyone have wood floors? I am in need of the best cleaner for woods floors. Pinesol says they are good one wood floors, but I think that will only work for the first cleaning or two. I don't think that is a long term solution. These are nice hard wood floors and I'm not going to be responsible for screwing them up.
Please pray everything goes smoothly. Miss Wiggles is getting over her cold and I am starting on mine it seems. I feel a wreck right now. To much to do for a cold I tell 'ya!

Your decorating ideas sound wonderful, I am not a fan of white walls either! :)
Blessings.
I LOVE color on the walls too- makes me feel alive, whereas white walls make me feel like I'm living in someone else's space.
