Puttering about my home by the bay

Spring seems to be melting away and summer is taking her position as sentry around here. These past few days have been a cool breezy farewell as our linen closet door swells to indicate summer is quickly taking center stage.

This lovely buxom white iris stands alone near our old tree stump. While about eight iris bulbs produced greenery reaching for the blue above only one dared produce the silken white adornment of the delicate white iris flower. Maybe next year the rest will join the party.

Speaking of parties, Miss Wiggles and I had our own planting party. Umh...well... she poked sticks into the mums on our front stoop and I happily clicked away on the old digital. Yes, that is dirt in her mouth in case you were wondering.

Eventually this diversity of pots will produce flowers that will then produce welcoming fragrances to welcome us home and greet our guests with their pleasing aroma. The seeds and silver pots are from Target's dollar section. My home away from home away from home.

How about a little weekend DIY project? Here is the little wicker basket I found in the medium a few blocks from my house. It sat there for a couple days with me eyeing in longingly. Finally as a drizzle began and I headed off to run more errands I stopped and rescued it. From the moment I saw that basket I knew exactly what I would do with it. It was love at first site.

I primed with a grey primer (it was the darkest primer I could find) and spray painted her black. Now I have this sharp looking little basket for all of Miss Wiggles shoes. I'm thinking though I will weed out the unnecessary shoes and she will have to share it with Mommy's flip flops. What do you think? I would also like to add that a few short months ago when we moved in that trim behind the basket was a dingy yucky eggshell (not that all eggshell is dingy and yucky, just ours was) and the walls were a sad off white flat paint covered in scuffs and other unpleasant things. Now the trim is a bright clean white and the walls are a pale blue satin from Better Homes and Gardens from Wal-Mart.

There is of course more underway around this home by the bay.

Finish painting my bedroom a lovely sunny pale cucumber green.
Transplant the bedroom furniture into my old office.
Fill former guest bedroom up with all the random stuff...junk room.
Buy mirrors to go in salvaged six pained window I spray painted turquoise.
Plant tomatoes, sweet peppers and melons in my garden (yeah, I'm getting a late start there).

So that is that. Things keep skipping right along around our home and I quite like it that way. Who wouldn't? :)

Love ya,
Katie
